At the close of the Web Summit and Food Summit with Good Food Ireland 2014, three very special people were inducted into the inaugural Good Food Ireland Celebration Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame has been created to form an historic collection of people who go above and beyond the call of duty to spread the Irish food message. Myrtle Allen, the Doyenne of Irish food, and founder of the home of local produce at Ballymaloe House, Redmond O'Donoghue, Chairman of Good Food Ireland, and Paddy Cosgrave, founder of Web Summit, recieved their honours from An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, and UK food journalist and chef Rowley Leigh. Myrtle Allen, the original champion of Irish food and long time activist and voice for Ireland's culinary heritage, described the recognition of her work as a great honour.  Redmond O'Donoghue was equally expressive, saying ' I am delighted, and when i learned of the other recipients, to be in that group is a great honour.' Paddy Cosgrave is the youngest of the three to enter the inaugural Hall of FAme, well deserved as the founder of a global event which has firmly placed Ireland at the forefront of technology, and for his vision in including Good Food Ireland into the event programme in 2013, introducing the benchmark brand for Irish food tourism to thousands of international visitors and media. Attendance for Web Summit has gone from 400 in 2009 to over 20 thousand people in 2014, and will be looking to increase those numbers yet again next year. Good Food Ireland members fed delegates, speakers and special guests like Eva Longoria, formerly of the series Desperate Housewives, now a successful businesswoman and one of the Summit's keynote speakers on the main stage. What a closing party it was – an exhausted but exhilirated group of Good Food Ireland members gathered to celebrate feeding the crowds with real Irish homegrown, home reared and home cooked food. A proud moment for those who recieved Hall of Fame honours, and also for the members who worked like troopers to ensure the taste of Ireland was on everyone's lips during the three day event.
