Good Food Ireland putting on the green apron and representing Ireland for the fifth year running at the Breeder’s Cup in Kentucky
Good Food Ireland will represent Ireland for the fifth successive year at the Breeders’ Cup World Horse Racing Championships, at the annual A Taste of the World event, this year taking place for the first time in Keenland in the heart of central Kentucky’s famed Bluegrass Region, the centre of America’s thoroughbred breeding industry.
The brainchild of Bobby Flay, US celebrity chef, horse breeder and Breeders’ Cup director, A Taste of the World is an international culinary event that takes place at each Breeder’s Cup promoting the national culinary identity of all of the Breeders’ Cup winners. Featuring 15 countries in all, including Ireland, UK, France, USA, Canada, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, Good Food Ireland fly the flag for Irish food at the fifth annual A Taste of the World at the Breeders’ Cup which takes place on Thursday, October 29, and is exclusive to Breeders’ Cup participants – owners, breeders, and trainers.
The horsemen and women at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships have notoriously good taste, a taste for the finer things in life, so Good Food Ireland, sponsored by Irish Thoroughbred Marketing and Coolmore, will get to showcase the finest Irish ingredients and delicious Irish flavours to a highly discerning audience.
Good Food Ireland seeks out the very best food experiences from people who are passionately committed to using local food, demonstrating the quality of Ireland’s food culture on a plate. Together their members form a network all over the entire island of Ireland that shares this common philosophy. Whether it is a small café, a bistro or fine dining restaurant, a country house or luxury hotel, a jam maker, an artisan cheese producer, or a rare-breed pork farmer, Good Food Ireland is for everyone who simply loves good food.
Good Food Ireland members Ed Cooney, Executive Chef of prestigious 5-star The Merrion Hotel in Dublin and Martin Shanahan, of RTE television’s Martin's Mad about Fish and owner of Fishy Fishy in Kinsale will cook at this year's event. Using Clare Island Irish Organic salmon, from the Irish Organic Salmon Company, Martin and Ed will create an innovative and exciting dish to represent Ireland on the world stage. Over 1,200 VIP guests from the horseracing world as well as US celebrities and international media will experience Ireland’s contribution to this year’s Taste of the World.
“In Ireland our weather and landscape combine to make the perfect setting for producing and training top class racing thoroughbreds, just as they do for producing top class food. Good Food Ireland is proud to represent our amazing contemporary food culture at the Breeder’s Cup for the fifth year, reinforcing the connection between these two key elements of Irish heritage, and we are grateful to Irish Thoroughbred Marketing and Coolmore for their support, natural partners in helping us do just that,” says Margaret Jeffares, Founder and Managing Director of Good Food Ireland.
