GALWAY GIRL

Galway city is pretty hip and happening. A annual food  festival, street performance almost every week, live trad music in the bars, theatre and culture. Plus lots of good places to eat, including a clutch of Good Food Ireland Approved Providers. One of them is Sorcha Molloy of Heron’s Rest Boutique B&B. Her townhouse accommodation overlooks the Claddagh and Galway Bay,  with water views. Walking distance from the centre of Galway and all the fun that goes with it. Sorcha provides B&B in a different way. The in-room breakfast menu is designed for guests to choose what they want the night before, then leave it in the kitchen, where it will be cooked to order by Sorcha in front of her guests, at a time they specify. Sorcha concentrates on unusual breakfast ideas, with a starter buffet of homemade scones and pastries, local yogurt and seasonal fruits and juices before the cooked main course. Breakfast is taken around the convivial large table in the kitchen. Home from home and there’s usually a bit of chat between house guests while Sorcha cooks away. Expect great coffee as well since this lady is a fully qualified and expert barista from a former career! During busy season,  Sorcha runs Seafood Supper nights for guests, which include complimentary aperitif and four courses, focussing on fresh fish for savouries, all for a set price. Diners can bring their own wine to the party. Afternoon Tea of five courses is also available on request. For those who are planning to get out and about, the Heron’s Rest team are happy to recommend special spots for outdoor dining and supply sumptuous picnics for the journey. A basket of gourmet local foods is provided with personalised maps of the area  – so visitors can find the most secluded, romantic and stunning scenic spots in the region to enjoy a gorgeous al fresco meal. Different is the thing at Heron’s Rest. Courtesy of a talented girl with more than a touch of creativity and style about her!
