West Cork has long been a trailblazing region for new artisan food production. Toons Bridge Dairy takes it's name from the nearby bridge over the River Toon, in a small and picturesque hamlet in the Macroom countryside in West Cork.
Down in deepest Wexford in 1988, Ellen O’Leary first made jams under the Wexford Home Preserves label. This lady created quite a stir, excuse our pun, gaining a great reputation for her beautiful jams, handmade from local home grown fruit.
The Good Food Ireland awarded Collection of Food and Drink Producers is unique. We celebrate primary producers, people who grow, rear or farm the kind of food we want to eat. A commitment to prioritising Irish ingredients within the produce is key to being awarded to the Collection, something that must not be taken for granted given the huge amount of imported ingredients to our island. Over the last few years a whole new group of producers have come on the scene. Farming has changed for viability and added value products have become almost the norm. So we dairy farmers making ice cream, fruit growers juices and alcoholic beverages, potato farmers crisps and even gins, the wealth of local artisan food and drink produce now available has soared. Hence the taste, flavour and quality of our produce and cuisine is now on the world stage. Look out for our awarded Producers in Shops, Delis and Markets, on Menus and some you will even see when you return to your home country. But like every country, in Ireland you need to seek out the best. This is what we do. Enjoy the taste!
