Every day when I come to work, I give it 110 percent'. So says Geraldine Kingston, owner proprietor and cook at this lovely little café, restaurant and wine bar in Clonakilty. Her dedication to serving the best to the residents and visitors of this coastal West Cork town is second to none. Cooking is in her blood, and she knows local, fresh and seasonal makes a good menu. She very rarely takes time off, so you will nearly always find her in the kitchen knocking up a superb fish pie from freshest fish caught in the bay nearby, topped with fluffy mashed potatoes from the neighbouring town land of Barryroe. Or it might be a delicious stew with meat from the butcher down the street. A packed menu and daily specials board is flagged proudly with an array of local growers, cheese makers and fish smokers. Impressive. You may even spot one of west Cork's local producers having lunch here - a great endorsement of good Irish food.
Taste at Gearoidins has an easy cosy feel - situated in one of the original buildings right in the heart of town, made modern but quirky in its décor. The main focus is the dessert counter, laden with goodies all made in house. We counted at least a dozen different pies, tarts, cakes and buns! Afternoon tea is served on bone china and highlights all the home baking. You can enjoy a selection of drinks including Maher's coffee, Barry's Tea and herb teas, as well as wines by the glass, carafe or bottle. A very good find we think. And we think you will think so too.
