Our Review of Richmount Cordial Company

Richmount Cordial Company is a company producing Elderflower and Elderberry cordials. It is the brainchild of Martina and David Burns who upon growing, began producing elderflower cordial commercially. The native Irish elder tree (Sambucas Nigra) grows in abundance on their farm, a plant shrouded in myth and legend but with the well deserved moniker of the “medicine chest of country folk”.

David planted 920 elder saplings in 2013 and while they are maturing, Richmount Elderflower cordial is made from hand-picked elderflowers found growing wild in the hedgerows. The flowers are infused within hours of being picked, hence capturing the fresh floral taste and aroma. It’s a very natural, authentic product, free from concentrate, artificial ingredients, additives, preservatives and sulphites.

Richmount elderflower cordial, when diluted, makes a refreshing floral drink suitable for all ages and occasions. It’s also a chic and sophisticated alternative to alcohol for non drinkers, designated drivers or expectant mothers. It doesn’t have the cloying sweetness of a fizzy drink or the banal familiarity of water – the usual choices for non-drinkers! It is economical and one 500ml bottle makes up to 5 litres of a refreshing drink. As a dilutable product, the consumer has full control over the amount of sugar they consume in their drink.

Their cordial is a very versatile product and, when undiluted, can be drizzled on ice-cream, added to fruit salad, combined with cream or used in desserts, sorbets and baking.  It can be added to cocktails, gin, prosecco or white wine.

Richmount’s David and Martina are passionate about the quality of their product and they want to put Longford and Ireland on the map for international quality, locally produced cordial.  They have plans to introduce other cordials to their range in the near future.

Richmount is one of the highest places in county Longford and the remains of an ancient fort and mote on Richmount Farm bear testament to its enviable and strategic location. David, like his father before him, has farmed the land for nearly forty years and has diversified from traditional mainstream farming. He has built up a successful sweetcorn enterprise, supplying some of the top restaurants in the country.   Richmount Cordial Company distribute their product to a large number of SuperValu and independent stores  around Ireland.
