Named after Major Dermot McCalmont of the McCalmont Family who took residence here till the late 1980’s and were the last private owners to use the house as a home before it became a hotel in 1989. Major McCalmont’s wife Lady Helen McCalmont gives her name to the Michelin starred Lady Helen Restaurant at the house.

Our Review of Lady Helen Restaurant at Mount Juliet Estate

A graceful house deserves a graceful dining room. That’s just what you’ll find at Mount Juliet Esate in Co. Kilkenny. The Lady Helen Dining Room is open to residents of the house and visitors. Executive Head Chef Ken Harker is young, dynamic and full of beans in the kitchen.  He oversees the first class menu here and all the other dining facilities of this house and estate. The eating experience starts the moment you walk into the grandeur of the dining room. Named after Lady Helen McCalmont of the McCalmont family, who were the last owners of the house before it’s changeover to hotel and golf estate. Careful restoration has preserved original characteristics of the 1750’s.

Tall Georgian bay windows take in panoramic views of the River Nore and the fields and gardens of the estate. Ornate cornicing and plasterwork of the period decorate ceiling and walls.
