Lough Erne Loughside Bar and Grill Good Food Ireland

The Loughside Bar and Grill

The Loughside Bar and Grill at Lough Erne is an interesting concept in hotel dining. As Executive Head Chef Noel McMeel says ‘this is our gastro grill restaurant, showcasing the best of Irish grilled meats and fish. It’s used a lot by our golfers because of its time honoured fayre, plus there are changing rooms, a golf shop and sporty area close by. But it’s also a great favourite with our regular locals who come together here to enjoy great food and great company.
Lough Erne Blaney Bar Good Food Ireland

The Blaney Bar

Pick from a selection of tasty little numbers like Irish glazed ham or a Free Range Scotch Egg made with the eggs of a local free range farm from a grazing style menu at The Blaney Bar. Salads swing from oriental inspired to traditional European whilst Mains include classics like Lough Erne’s Club Sandwich or Irish Salmon and Signature dishes of Fermanagh lamb and beef. Desserts err on the side of homely and comforting, with Chef Noel’s Favourite Traditional Apple Crumble Tart and other familiar puddings.

Our Review of Lough Erne Resort

Lough Erne is the second biggest lake system in Northern Ireland the fourth largest in Ireland. Made up of two lakes, Lower Lough, the largest, and Upper Lough, bridged by the historical town of Enniskillen. In this scenic spot, Lough Erne Resort stands proud on its own peninsula of over six hundred beautiful acres.

The resort has been home to celebrities, movie stars, champion golfers and world leaders. The G8 summit took place here in 2013, with then British Prime Minister David Cameron, US President Barack Obama and the other political heads of the most important states in the world gathering to discuss the big issues. A summit  Mr Cameron later described as ‘one of the most successful and peaceful summits in recent history.’ And it’s easy to see why that could happen. There is a natural calm here, descended from an area which has known its fair share of turbulence in a history going back over 500 years.  Here is a spot where divine natural tranquility reigns supreme.

General Manager at Lough Erne is William Kirby, coming to the resort from his last GM post at Mount Juliet in Co. Kilkenny. William brings with him all the expertise of running a five star country house hotel and estate. And a fair whack of humour and generosity of spirit, enabling him to steer this ship with an experienced hand, to lead a hotel team who are cementing the reputation of Lough Erne as a modern destination resort.

William says, ‘Lough Erne is unique in that it is on its own peninsula in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. This peninsula is like a nature reserve, with all the aspects of the lake and surrounding land. We want people to come here and enjoy Lough Erne as an accessible lifestyle experience for the discerning traveller.’

Part of that lifestyle experience includes superlative accommodation in a mixture of executive Lakeside rooms,  suites and self contained lodges, all with period features and stunning views of the estate. Two world class championship golf courses, one designed by six time major winner Sir Nick Faldo, combine 36 magnificent holes in the ultimate golf experience, designed around the natural landscape of this area. Add to that a unique Thai inspired Spa which offers a special menu of relaxation therapies and treatments.  And as we’re all about the food at Good Food Ireland, we can assure you that it’s all in the capable hands of experienced Executive Chef Noel McMeel, who has established the hotel as one of the best dining destinations in Ireland.

There are several options for dining at Lough Erne.  ‘Our Executive Chef Noel McMeel is a great chef and very experienced. He has devised different personalities for each  of our food offerings at the hotel, so guests always have choice and diversity.’ says William.

Fine dining happens in the graceful showpiece of The Catalina Restaurant. Here you will indulge in the elegance of the room, the professionalism of the team and a stunning menu which blends contemporary with classic is always influenced by local produce and seasonality. The Blaney Bar serves a tapas style Grazing Menu with smaller portion dishes, so guests can browse and share the flavours of several offerings in one meal. Alternative casual restaurant dining at The Loughside Bar and Grill comprises the ‘Steak Corner’ and ‘Burger Bar’, in what the hotel describes as ‘time honoured golfers fare’, which anyone can enjoy while admiring the views of The Faldo Championship Golf Course.

Activities at Lough Erne Resort include the Faldo Golf Academy, fly fishing on the lake, walking trails, guided, heritage and culture trails, and helicopter tours from the resort, complete with Lough Erne Picnic Hamper for the longer tours,  if you so wish!  All these elements combine to create the ‘lifestyle experience’ that William Kirby describes, at one of Ireland’s most exquisite gems in country house and estate living.
