Our Review of Kelly's Resort - La Marine Bar Bistro

La Marine is Kelly's Hotel Resort's casual dining restaurant. This French bistro style brasserie offers exceptional value on the various a la carte menus, with dishes simply executed in keeping with this French way of eating. La Marine  has its own separate entrance for non residents of the hotel. A zinc bar imported from France is the focal point, and the fireplace in the bar provides a dramatic touch. Here is the ideal place to socialise or enjoy an aperitif before eating.

A snack menu is available in the bar throughout the afternoon. Lunch and dinner are served daily at La Marine. Lunch is very reasonably priced and features much fish and seafood from the Wexford coast. Dinner is a little more grown up and intimate, with Wexford reared beef and lamb, farm duck and Kilmore Quay fish and shellfish in the mix.  The hotel's renowned Wine List is meticulously sourced, always changing, and excellent value.

Most wines are directly imported from suppliers, with France top of the list, not least because of Bill Kelly's family link with Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines. His brother in law Vincent Avril,  and father in law Paul Avril produce Clos des Papes, one of this region's most famous and celebrated wines. So be prepared to find some great and rare French treats on the list, as Bill believes these wines are made especially with food in mind.

There are many lovely wines in the collection, which include organic and biodynamic wines, and an exceptional choice of half bottles.

Tom Durcan, craft butcher of over twenty five years experience, is a master of spiced beef. It has won him many honours. This fine Cork speciality is the underlining product at his butcher’s stall in the English market. Tom’s career began as a youngster, when he took a summer job in a butcher’s shop during school holidays. The experience proved invaluable. Working with an experienced butcher with his own slaughter house provided what Tom describes as a ‘fantastic education’ for the young novice in how to source animals, and the ground rules for good butchery.
