Our Review of Jim Edwards

Jim Edwards is one of Kinsale's  long standing family run pubs. This place always gathers a lively crowd, for it's traditional atmosphere and great bar and separate formal restaurant menu. Of course, fish features big time, because this West Cork harbour is home to an active small boat fishing fleet.

You might just decide to make a night of it once you get to Jim Edward's. Rooms are upstairs from the bar area, but nevertheless very quiet. Interior design is simple but it does the job - comfy beds, ensuite shower facilities, TV and tea and coffee making facilities in all rooms ensure you have a pleasurable stay. Dinner and room packages here can't be beaten - the very reasonable price includes one night's bed and breakfast and dinner in the restaurant.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant area, and includes a buffet of cereals, fresh fruit with natural yogurt, freshly squeezed orange juice and scones from the local bakery up the road. The full Irish is filling and satisfying or for a lighter morning bite, try the Irish smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Good Food Ireland is delighted to have Jim Edwards on board in the network - the ethos here has always been to serve local food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere and they do that very well indeed. Add to that the convenience of it's bed and breakfast facilities and you have a lively town based Culinary Accommodation in one of West Cork's favourite food destinations.

Tom Durcan, craft butcher of over twenty five years experience, is a master of spiced beef. It has won him many honours. This fine Cork speciality is the underlining product at his butcher’s stall in the English market. Tom’s career began as a youngster, when he took a summer job in a butcher’s shop during school holidays. The experience proved invaluable. Working with an experienced butcher with his own slaughter house provided what Tom describes as a ‘fantastic education’ for the young novice in how to source animals, and the ground rules for good butchery.
