Our Review of Gleesons Restaurant

Gleesons Restaurant & Rooms in Roscommon town, owned by Eamon and Mary Gleeson,  is a very fine place to stay. Its restaurant showcases the best in local, home made and Irish fresh produce and artisan specialities, their raw ingredients truely are at the centre of every dish. The Manse Restaurant at the Townhouse is open to residents and non residents. Dinner at The Manse spells a lesson in learning about local.

Seafood and the best quality Irish meats play a strong role. Roscommon is lamb country and Gleeson's offering is sublime, reared in the countryside around the town it is a speciality. Gleeson's Restaurant serves the best cuts of beef in Roscommon, supplied by local butcher, Tommy Madden's Meats. Chicken is also sourced locally from Ray Gannon who holds a stall at the Roscommon farmer's market every Saturday, all locally sources and organic and only a stone's throw away from Gleeson's itself. There is usually a roast of the day too - depending on what the chef finds available and best. You'll find trad and trendy on this menu - an eclectic mix of dishes and styles to suit all tastes. To top of this fabulous feast, make sure to treat yourself. All desserts are handmade and homemade, a feast for your eyes and smile for your face. Enjoy your favourite or pick some to share.

The Manse keeps the period feel of the house in mind in decor terms. This restaurant is warm and homely, with a no fuss approach to table dressings. Simple china and cutlery and fresh flower posies on wooden table tops create a very informal feel - almost like the dining room in a family home - but none the less with an intimate bistro like feel. Especially in the evenings when tea lights glow. Romantic or raucous - whatever your occasion to be here you'll enjoy the ambience!  An All Day menu runs at The Manse until 9pm. Again, local producers are used and highlighted. The Gleeson's are proud to support the local and artisan producers of their area and Ireland. Here is a restaurant that flys the Good Food Ireland Irish food flag very high indeed.

Tom Durcan, craft butcher of over twenty five years experience, is a master of spiced beef. It has won him many honours. This fine Cork speciality is the underlining product at his butcher’s stall in the English market. Tom’s career began as a youngster, when he took a summer job in a butcher’s shop during school holidays. The experience proved invaluable. Working with an experienced butcher with his own slaughter house provided what Tom describes as a ‘fantastic education’ for the young novice in how to source animals, and the ground rules for good butchery.
