Dining at Ghan House is a special experience. This Georgian period home, owned and run by Paul Carroll, includes luxurious accommodation and a fine restaurant in the house's original drawing room. The restaurant is open to overnight guests and non residents.
A warm fire in the original fireplace crackles a welcome. The Grand Piano may be getting its ivories tinkled as you eat. Candlelight adds an intimate glow. All this provides a very gracious backdrop to the feast in store. In keeping with the Good Food Ireland message, ingredients are local and seasonal, and may feature herbs and vegetables from the house's own kitchen garden when available.
Fresh fish, local mussels and lobster, suckling pig, and fine Irish beef make up the core of the menu, all treated respectfully in order to keep flavours true. Five courses are served by attentive staff who know their business. Paul is very often in attendance himself so you really do get the personal touch.
Prior to eating, you may wish to enjoy an aperitif in the cosy bar area, which also has a fire in the grate - nothing like it for making you feel at home. Bottles of wine are on display so you can be sure you'll get a good choice on the wine list to accompany your meal. Perhaps you'd prefer to take coffee and a brandy in the bar after dinner. A great opportunity to chat to other diners as you do so.
This is a sociable house, and you never know who you might meet! Special parties, family celebrations and weddings are very welcome at Ghan House. Pre-wedding feasts in the dining room provide a chance for bride and groom's families to get together before the big day. A function room upstairs can cater larger parties in a magnificent setting, among period features and corniced ceilings. Menus can be discussed with Paul beforehand, but be sure you will always be eating local and seasonal, cooked and served with care.
OPENING HOURS: Restaurant open from 6pm most nights, last orders are 9.30pm. A 6 Course midweek tasting menu at €33 is available from 6pm-8pm, Monday to Thursday, and a €45 four course menu is available every night.
