Our Review of Dylan Hotel

A haven awaits you in Eastmoreland Place. Nestled in a quiet residential neighbourhood, just off Baggot Street, Dylan Hotel is a peaceful paradise. During the day, all you can hear are children playing in the playground of the local school. At night it’s silent. It’s very hard to find this kind of homely quiet, so close to buzzing central Dublin.

Grainne Ross is Managing Director of this chic boutique hotel - and daughter of the owner. This is an Irish family business with the personal touch. There is no over the top grand entrance. Just a few steps up to the lovely outdoor terrace which fronts the generously proportioned graceful double fronted Victorian building, formerly the Nurses’ Home for the Royal City of Dublin Hospital. Then the discreet arched doorway to the Lobby area, designed in cool calming colours with impressive, off the wall design quirks in furniture and lighting. This is an elegant old lady of a listed Dublin residence, given the contemporary treatment inside.

The General Manager and staff maintain a knowledgeable air and professional aloofness, all the while keeping a warm welcome at the core of service. Dylan is a discreet hotel in every sense. Grainne’s own stylish approach to life and work is reflected within these walls. She played a large part in the commissioning and finalising of the interior design.

The feel here is of entering someone’s own home – Irish hospitality balanced with the privacy of five star luxury hotel services. This is a hard tight rope to walk, achieved here in the best possible manner. The seventy two bedrooms at Dylan have their own funky design twists. Thanks to furniture designer Christopher Guy, who has worked extensively throughout the world. Expect fabulous headboards and wonderful one off furniture pieces, specially commissioned beds and exciting colour schemes. Individually designed lighting and exquisite wall art mirrors, blended with elegant period architecture in room proportions and sash windows.

State of the art bathrooms with varying combinations of baths and showers are equipped with fluffy robes and slippers. Expect monogrammed towels and Italian marble floors with underfloor heating. Dylan’s have got the lot. Choose from sixteen Luxury Rooms, forty seven Deluxe Rooms, eight Experience Suites and one Signature Suite. Each rising in square footage – but all uniquely designed with comfort of paramount importance. Room allocation is something the staff spend a lot of time on, with guest information considered carefully in making sure they get the right room for their stay. That personal touch again.
