Our Review of Dan Buckley’s Bar at Castle Hotel & Leisure Centre

This historically named bar takes its name from the father of the current owners of the Castle Hotel and Leisure Centre in Macroom, Co. Cork. The hotel has been in the  Buckley family for over six decades, so family run hospitality and a traditional Irish welcome is built into the very fabric of the place. Dan Buckley’s Bar is an atmospheric spot, where visitors can relax and hotel residents can make themselves right at home.

Dark wood furnishings, soft leather sofas and exposed stone walls give this place an intimate cosy feel.  It’s a busy hub of the hotel, and when we tell you about the food on offer you’ll know why. A casual dining bar menu is served here between 3pm and 9.30pm each evening.

You’ll find a stylish selection of dishes which pay homage to the  local produce of the Cork area. Fish lovers will adore the Wild Atlantic Way Seafood Plate. Meat eaters will fancy the West Cork Artisan Producer Plate, made for sharing. Award winning black pudding from the nearby village of Ballyvourney , rubs shoulders with that from Jack McCarthy in Kanturk.  Delicious goat’s cheese from a nearby farm in Kilmichael is one to try,  because you may not find it elsewhere.  Local butcher’s pork, aged steaks and minced beef all feature in various ways in hot main courses.  West Cork fresh fish and prawns also make an appearance. This menu really does take enormous pride in flying the flag for the produce of this plentiful region.  Each lunchtime, a full carvery is served from 12 noon to 3pm. The buffet offers one or two large roast joints of the day, plus individual servings of other dishes like quiche of the day and a casserole, or stew.  All are accompanied with tradtional vegetables. There’s a salad bar for those who want something lighter. The Carvery at Dan Buckley’s has a fine reputation.  It’s mightily popular, we can tell you!

A super selection of very reasonably priced sandwiches, toasties and wraps are also showcases for Cork ingredients.  Quality shines throughout. All desserts are homemade and worth indulgence!

A full bar service operates  here, plus wines and  a full menu of freshly made coffees, tea and speciality teas. What’s not to like? Pop into Dan Buckley’s Bar and we think you will agree!
