Our Review of Cornucopia

Deirdre McCafferty’s Cornucopia, on Dublin's Wicklow Street, has been a central part of the fabric of the city for over two decades. Walking into the buzzing little café, it's easy to see why. The entrance walls are adorned with posters advertising everything from yoga to macrobiotic cookery classes. Here is a place you come to eat and find out what's going on in the locale.

Cornucopia provides welcome refreshment for the many shoppers and workers in this area. Clientele is a real eclectic mix - you won't feel left out if you're new in town. There's a welcoming buzz all the time. Two adjoining dining rooms provide plenty of space for a bite to eat. Simple table seating and unfussy decoration equals relaxed friendly ambience. You order at the counter, then take a table and your food will be brought to you. This restaurant specialises in vegan, vegetarian and wholefood, paying special attention to those with food allergies or intolerances. Chefs have huge experience in balanced vegetarian and vegan menu choices.  Deidre's ethos is reflected throughout, and has become the backbone of this little gem of a cafe. Her menus inspired the Cornucopia at Home cookbook which has brought vibrant vegetarian and vegan cookery into many a home kitchen.

Mornings list good breakfast choices. Try the pancakes. We highly recommend them! Good value here,  with some dishes including tea or coffee, toast and vegan jam. Local produce is used and highlighted. Lunch is written up on the board. Raw Living Soups provide boosts of nutrition in a bowl. Hot seasonal soups also availble. Both options come as eat in or takeaway. Healthy eating is very much on the agenda here. The display counter has a tantalising selection of salads and main courses. Drinks include herbal and organic teas and fairtrade coffees, alongside fresh pressed fruit juices. A vibrant takeaway trade is also part of daily business here.

Upstairs at Cornucopia, a private dining room is used for special events and themed evenings. It has a bright airy feel from windows overlooking the street. A good addition to one of Dublin's lively and longstanding food hubs.

Cornucopia's Award Winning Cookery Book 'Cornucopia at Home' is soon to be followed with their second cookbook, ‘The Green Cookbook’, which will include fully vegan & plant based recipes from chef James Burke.
