Overview

The town of Navan in Co. Meath has a South Asian gem in its midst. Copper and Spices Restaurant has been serving up authentic Indian cuisine since 2009. Owners' Carmel Corrigan and Head Chef Nitin Gautam, are the dynamic husband and wife duo who have made the marriage between Irish hospitality, and Indian and Thai cooking, work to its very best potential.

Copper and Spices prides itself on using the best of local and seasonal produce. Freshly ground spices enhance this, to make dishes that taste true to their exotic origins. Nitin says ‘food is like an adventurous journey’, which helps him stay in touch with his culture. Regional flavours and specialities feature in his menu. As part of an education process, Nitin also teaches cookery at the restaurant.  ‘We love sharing our food knowledge with local people, by running basic cookery courses.’, he says. These classes appeal to all levels of ability and give participants a grounding in creating their own authentic South Asian cuisine at home.

Nitin makes all his curries from scratch,  using only the freshest local ingredients, and conscientiously sourced spices of the very best quality. No additives or preservatives in sight. A perfect harmony of South Asian cuisine made with Irish ingredeints.  All meat here is Irish, processed according to strict Halal guidelines. Full traceability from reputable and compliant suppliers is paramount for all ingredients.  The cooking team here are all South Asian, working in Ireland for some years. At Copper and Spices, they specialise in using their home culture of food and kitchen skills, to create authentic tasting dishes that are subtly adapted to suit the Irish palate.

This restaurant follows the modern trend of today’s best Asian restaurants, keeping interior looks contemporary and stylish. Food presentation also receives the upmarket treatment, with true Asian flavours matched by stunning visual appeal on the plate. Carmel works front of house, welcoming customers with typical Irish warmth, and guiding them through menus and wine choices. Beers come only from Ireland, with several craft breweries listed. Irish craft cider is also here and makes a good match with some of the fish or vegetable based dishes.  Copper and Spices offers genuine Indian and Thai cooking, in a chic dining room which has Irish hospitality at its heart.
