Our Review of Celtic Whiskey Shop

Ireland’s largest selection of Irish whiskies, spirits and craft brews under one roof. What a shop to stop in – and stay in for as long as it takes to browse and decide.  Since 2003, The Celtic Whiskey Shop has been serving up Ireland’s most famous drink. You won’t find a more impressive selection anywhere. Owner Ally Alpine and his devoted team of specialist staff are only too delighted to share their wonderfully extensive whiskey and drinks knowledge with every customer.

Glimpse the selection on the shelves. Connemara’s peaty whiskies.  The smoothness of Cork’s Jameson or lively punch of Powers. The gentle softness of Dingle Gold. Full on the aromatic style of Bushmills. Diverse tastes of Kilbeggan, Tullamore Dew, Tyrconnell, Teeling, Clontarf….. we could go on, and on, and on. There just isn’t room to list them all!  Rubbing shoulders with familiar and exclusive names, find a  selection of rare older bottlings bought from private collectors and sold only here. Also, check out the Celtic Cask range – these are whiskeys sourced and bottled by Ally himself.  Then browse the wall of miniatures of all whiskies sold in the shop – a good way to sample different tastes.  Each of Ireland’s counties is also represented in crested miniature bottles of single Irish Malt Whiskey from Cooley Distillery. These prove extremely popular as wedding favours!  Whiskey tastings are offered daily for all customers, and to tour groups by appointment.

Alongside the whiskies, Ireland’s renowned Poitin – once an illegal spirit originally made from potatoes and distilled in secret,  is showcased too. Irish liquors, new wave gins and vodkas, artisan craft beers and ciders, plus Irish artisan chocolates are also here.  You’ll be bedazzled and bewitched!  An impressive choice of Scotch, Bourbons and imported spirits also on sale. Adjoining the Whiskey Room is the Wine Room of the Wines on the Green Wine Shop, featuring an exclusive selection of Irish produced wines plus unusual bottles from boutique wineries all over the world, ninety per cent of them sourced directly and imported by Ally and his team.  Grape and Grain -  mixed happily and successfully!

Enda McEvoy is one of the quiet gentlemen of Irish food. Not for him the ranting and raving, or crashing pots and pans around. Enda goes about his business in a calm, considered manner. But don’t be fooled by his cool exterior. The humbleness of his gentle personality belies a chef with a will of iron, who really knows what he wants in his kitchen.
