Our Review of Carrygerry Country House

The welcome is warm and the food delicious at Carrygerry House, the lovely home of Gillian and Niall Ennis, in Clare. Their elegant residence, dating back to 1793, has large gardens, period furnishings and enjoys views of the Shannon. It’s remarkably peaceful, yet just 3km from Shannon airport.

Gillian always takes the trouble to welcome guests at the imposing front door on arrival, and waves them off again on departure. During your stay here, you'll feel cherished, appreciated, and well looked after, which is exactly what you want from a country house experience. It’s the personal touch, which brings visitors back time and again.

Dinner is taken in The Conservatory Restaurant looking over river views and front lawns. This is a feast to be lingered over and enjoyed at your leisure. Breakfast is also served in the Conservatory Restaurant. Start with fresh juice, yogurt, cereals and fruit. Or maybe Porridge with Irish Whiskey Cream.  Cooked to order breakfasts include a splendid ‘Full Irish’ of local butcher’s sausages, black and white puddings and bacon and free-range eggs. Plenty of house bread and toast to go with - and the juice, tea and coffee will flow!

Carrygerry House is convenient for all stops going west and a superb stop off to or from the airport.

A new angle to the offering here at Carrygerry House is the superb wedding packages. Wedding banquets for groups of 100 max are tailored to the requirements of the happy couple. The house also has a civil licence for wedding ceremonies. Bride, Groom and guests can hire the whole house for private use, taking advantage of the comfortable bedrooms, beautiful grounds for stunning photo opportunities, and outdoor courtyard with blazing log fire, accessed by fairy lit wooden walkway from the house, toward the special function room for the wedding feast and celebrations. Wedding ceremonies take place in the lovely conservatory, or outside in the grounds of the house, weather permitting.

Tom Durcan, craft butcher of over twenty five years experience, is a master of spiced beef. It has won him many honours. This fine Cork speciality is the underlining product at his butcher’s stall in the English market. Tom’s career began as a youngster, when he took a summer job in a butcher’s shop during school holidays. The experience proved invaluable. Working with an experienced butcher with his own slaughter house provided what Tom describes as a ‘fantastic education’ for the young novice in how to source animals, and the ground rules for good butchery.
