The Visitor Centre at the Burren Smokehouse is a wonderful interactive experience for food lovers interested in how the great taste of smoked salmon comes to be. Discover how salmon from the sea is transformed into a delicacy with just salt and smoke. The team at the Burren Smokehouse believes that smoking the traditional way with real fire and smoke is an art and a craft that needs to be preserved. Add to this skill, the best raw material they can get, Irish Organic Salmon and Wild Irish Salmon from the west coast of Ireland and you will get a superior product which will spoil your taste buds.
Take a trip back into the Smokehouse's illustrious history with a look at the old but still functioning kiln which was used back in the day when the smokehouse first opened its doors. Run your hands through the saw dust and look in the smoke box to get a feel for the whole smoking process.
Everyone is made welcome, with the visitor centre seeing people from all over the world coming through their doors. Watch a short video about the smoking process (it's free and available in English, French, German, Swedish, Italian and Spanish). Afterwards, get taste of the Burren Smoked Organic Salmon and decide which one you prefer, the cold or the hot smoked variety.
The shop at the Burren Smokehouse and Visitor Centre in Lisdoonvarna, a mere 20 minute drive from the famous Cliffs of Moher, is a gourmet's delight. Birgitta Hedin-Curtin, the owner-manager and founder of Burren Smokehouse, is a beautiful lady with lots of knowledge and enthusiasm for artisan-produced foods, especially from the locality of Clare and the Burren region, many of which you can find in the visitor centre. The company is celebrating 30 years in business in 2019.
Birgitta comments on the Burren Smokehouse's success stating, 'We are very passionate about the quality of our products and about our customer service. It is this passion and high quality level of our products that attracted the attention of such customers as Fortnum & Mason, Harrods and Selfridges in the UK. Queen Elizabeth and 180 guests enjoyed our Smoked Irish Organic Salmon as a starter during the historic State Dinner in Dublin Castle in May of 2011.'
The visitor centre also caters for self-drive and chauffeur-driven visitors as well as VIP experiences and can accommodate larger groups (pre-booking is required).
If you want to eat smoked salmon but cannot visit the Burren Smokehouse yourself, you can easily on their website and have the salmon shopped directly to you, family, friends or associates. They also offer a hassle free corporate gifting service for Christmas, or any occasion throughout the year.
