Our Review of Boann Distillery

Boann Distillery is very much a family affair, formed by Patrick and Marie Cooney, along with family members, Sally-Anne, Celestine, Peter, Patrick and James. The family drew on their considerable combined experience in the Irish Drinks Industry to realise their dream of creating a premium brand of Irish whiskey.

From their base in Drogheda, Co. Louth, the Cooney family have created in impressive distillery. The have erected specially designed and distinctive nano-copper pot stills and fine oak cask cellars, the ideal equipment to create whiskey with a distinct enticing taste and authenticity. At the helm of production you'll find John McDougall, an internationally renowned master distiller and consultant at the distillery. John has utilised his wealth of knowledge in distilling to assist in developing the range of Boann Whiskeys.

Boann Distillery pride themselves on using 100% local raw ingredients and running a sustainable operation. Fresh water is sourced from their well, while barley is brought in from local farmers. Energy produced from distilling is recycled back into the distillery to heat the distillery and run packaging lines. Bio material such as grains are used for animal feed, in keeping with a desire for the distillery to be as sustainbale and environmentally conscious as possible.

Whiskey is distilled on site. Boann have expertly combined a centuries old tradition of Irish distilling with modern technology through distinctive pot sills to create their whiskey. Distilled whiskey is placed in fine oak casks where it rests for a minimum of three years. All bottling is done at the Boann distillery site, managing the whole process from grain to glass.

The Cooney family have successfully created a range of great tasting whiskey that stays true to ancient methods of whiskey distilling while using the benefits of modern production to perfect their whiskey.
