Ballycotton Lifeboat Gala Dinner Fundraiser to take place at Ballymaloe House on Friday 31st January
The annual Ballycotton Lifeboat Gala Dinner will take place on Friday 31st January at Good Food Ireland Approved, Ballymaloe House, with a ‘Downton Abbey’ theme to raise vital funds to support the brave volunteer RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) crew and station in the nearby fishing village of Ballycotton. During 2019 Ballycotton Lifeboat went to sea over 60 times; there were 12 shout-out rescues which assisted eight people in distress. The Ballycotton Lifeboat crew is made up of 22 volunteers and on average each of the crew spent over 40 hours at sea between training and rescues.
Unusually, in 2019 the furthest rescue was only 12 miles from station, however the Ballycotton Lifeboat crew have assisted at rescues over 90 miles away. Rescues in 2019 involved many different situations and different types of vessels and activities including fishing vessels, sailing vessels, jet skis, kayakers, and swimmers. The RNLI is a charity supported solely by donations and fundraising. It costs approximately €250,000 per year to keep a lifeboat in Ballycotton; funds raised at the event will ensure that the crew has the necessary equipment and training to keep our coastline safe. The 2020 Gala Dinner is expected to raise €15,000, with 100% of donations and over 80% of the ticket price going directly to the Ballycotton RNLI.
“We have been expecting you” …. The 1920’s ‘Downton Abbey-themed event includes gin cocktail reception sponsored by Black’s Brewery accompanied by Perfidia Jazz quartet (who generously perform, gratis) in the Drawing Room. Head Chef, Dervilla O’Flynn will create a delicious seasonal and locally sourced menu including Ballymaloe desserts from their award winning dessert trolley, coffee and petit fours. After dinner entertainment is provided by sassy Cork jazz band The Runaway Retros, with a charity Blackjack table and Celfie mirror hosted by Celebsentertainment.ie.
The Allen family has proudly hosted a Ballycotton lifeboat Fundraising event since opening Ballymaloe House to the public in 1964. The event is particularly special to the family as Myrtle and Ivan Allen met at a Ballymaloe House lifeboat dinner hosted by the previous house owners. The Ballycotton Lifeboat Fundraising Committee is hugely grateful for their exceptional ongoing support, as well as the generosity of event sponsors Hurley's SuperValu Midleton, VTSL Ireland, Cully & Sully, Pier 26 (Ballycotton) and East Cork Oil. This annual event is only possible thanks to their generosity and the many local supporters providing a range of wonderful raffle prizes.
