Message from Good Food Ireland Founder & CEO Margaret Jeffares

Dear Friends,

As we enter another period of uncertainty with new restrictions, the support we all provide our local economy by choosing to buy local is needed now more than ever.

If 2020 has shown us anything it is the strong sense of solidarity that the public feels for our local hotels, restaurants, food shops, cafes, food & drink producers and other local businesses within our towns and villages. Summer 2020 was proclaimed as the summer of staycations and it saw families, couples, solo travellers and more journey around our lovely country to discover the very best local food & drink experiences. Providing businesses with a much needed boost after the widespread lockdown of the spring.

It is this sense of solidarity that we ask the public to continue with as we journey through another set of restrictions. There is plenty we can do to support them during these difficult times. Our Collection of Approved businesses has proven to be resilient and resourceful in the challenges that Covid-19 throws at them. Many of them have set up new online shops to sell their produce or have created a wonderful takeaway service so that you can still enjoy their delicious food offering at home. Other food shops and delis remain open so that you can easily call in and pick up food & drink items to enjoy at home.

With the busy Christmas period coming around the corner, giving the Gift of a Good Food Ireland® Gift Voucher will also go a long way with helping to make sure our local economy bounces back. Our vouchers can be used in hotels, restaurants, cafes, cookery schools, food shops and much more across the island of Ireland. Each member Approved to Good Food Ireland® Collection is inspected and Approved based on their commitment to sourcing their ingredients locally in support of local farmers, food producers and fishermen. Ensuring that local jobs and businesses continue to remain viable.

Good Food Ireland® Gift Vouchers can also be used in conjunction with the Government's Stay & Spend Initiative, providing you with a tax credit on receipts from restaurants and hotels that you visit in the coming months.

For business owners, why not say thank you to staff this Christmas with a Good Food Ireland® Gift Voucher? Under the Irish Government’s Small Benefits tax exemption policy, Irish businesses can reward their teams up to €500 per employee, once per year, free of tax, PRSI and USC. It's also a lovely way to show support to fellow local businesses.
