Cais, The Association of Irish Cheesemakers was founded in 1983, facilitated by The National Dairy Council. Since then, membership has grown in strength from a few enterprising founding member cheesemakers like Good Food Ireland members Durrus and Milleens to over thirty members throughout Ireland. 

Last week, Cais ran its biennial Irish Cheese Awards, with judging tastings and awards ceremony at The Grainstore in Ballymaloe House. We offer our heartiest congratulations to Good Food Ireland member winners in each of the classes listed below. If you want award winning tastes on your Christmas Cheeseboard this year, take your pick from this little lot. 

Class 3 – Soft, Fresh Cheese, All Milks

Bronze & Best in Class – Bluebell Falls Original

Class 4 – Soft, Fresh Cheese, Flavour Added, All Milks

Best in Class – Ardsallagh Cranberry Roulad

Class 6 – Washed Rind Cheese, All Milks

Gold – Durrus
Bronze – Milleens Dote

Class 7 – Blue Cheese, All Milks

Silver – Boyne Valley Blue

Class 11 – Smoked Cheese, All Milks

Silver & Best in Class – Smoked Durrus
Silver – Milleens Smoked Céad
