If you’re on a date with someone you’ve known for yonks, The Yard is a perfect spot for chowing down together on a Friday night. Its got a lively vibe and the fairy light bedecked courtyard makes a great outdoor eating space if the weather is fine. Pour the wine and browse the menu, packed with local specialities. The best bit here is that the veggies come from the 10 acre vegetable and herb garden of the owner of the restaurant. This is really is garden to plate dining. Makes a great talking point with the staff and at the table.
The Little Yard
First time daters can nip round the back of The Yard to the Little Yard Tapas and Wine Bar, for a lively night of sharing Spain’s small plates. A very convivial first date, where you’ll get a total sense of one another straight away as regards table manners, sociability and adventurous eating all in one go! Sharing tapas also makes for something to chat about, so the conversation won’t run dry.
Sample from the menu of authentic Spanish salads before moving on to the Embutidos (cured meats) of Chorizo, Serrano and Saucisson de Mort. Platos de Carne (meat dishes) including Heuvos Fritos con Chorizo (baked eggs with chorizo) or Albondigas (meatballs in tomato sauce) among others. Fish tapas are typically Spanish, with Calamares (squid), Merluza (hake) Bacalao (salt cod) and Gambas a la Plancha – grilled prawns to you! All sourced from the local fishmonger in Wexford Town.
