FEELIN’ THE NEED FOR SPEED…

So you’re one of those people who starts their day with a healthy fresh homemade juice or smoothie, right? Good plan. You’d have to have been living on Mars if you hadn’t heard by now how nutritious a whizz up of raw vitamin packed fruit and/or vegetables is for your body. Apparently, there are ways to puree your ingredients, and there are WAYS to puree your ingredients! According to the manufacturer of Nutribullet, this  is THE ulitmate machine for not just blitzing your chosen drink recipe, – they actually call it a ‘nutrition extractor’. As the sales blurb goes, the Nutribullet ‘ breaks down’, your chosen mix of fruit, veg, nuts and seeds, to get them into the best possible state for optimum nutrition absorbtion by the body. It also breaks down the natural fibre in the cell walls of the ingredients, so this is included in the drink, rather than being thrown away after blending in a traditional juicer. The end result, the manufacturers call this, is a ‘Nutriblast’.  (The tecchies will want to know how it does all this – the basic model has a 600 Watts motor, specially adapted blades and generous 18 and 24oz cup attachments)  And apparently, there’s another plus. You can mill your own flour with the special milling attachment. A picture we found in our research shows oats in their natural form, then as a superfine flour, made in seconds and ready for using in your baking. Anyone who has ever used freshly ground flour in baking,  can’t help but be impressed by how much more alive the end result is – like freshly ground coffee, freshly ground flour  is full of natural vibrancy,  which brings your recipe  to life.  Here is a bit of good news for those who want to use  more of the hard to get nut, seed and oat flours in their diets, rather than tradtional wheat flours. We found a few reviews which said you really do have to read the recipe book that comes with this product, to get the best out of it. Nutribullet employs a team of nutritionists to come up with perfectly balanced recipes for use in this machine,  so it probably makes sense to read what they have to say! It also makes sense to use the best and freshest seasonal ingredients – those grown without the use of chemicals and not flown half way across the world are higly recommended if you want to get them at their nutritional best.  Check out  farm shops for an array of homegrown Irish summer produce, chemical free where possible. (Hint – Kale and Spinach are big hits with the juicing brigade and Nutribullet fans!)  We’d be interested to hear if any of you have invested in this lean, mean, blending machine!  And if you have, does it do what it says on the tin? Does Nutribullet live up to it's fairly substantial price tag – and all the hype?!
