FAMILY COOKING

Oh the challenge in cooking for a family.  ‘What’s for dinner ?’ is the ultimte burning question.  Set to get even the most competent cook hot under the collar! How many times have you heard it and scratched your head,  wondering what concoction you are going to create this evening? Especially if you happen to be the person arriving home from work who is also charged with the lion’s share of the daily culinary duties. What if we told you we know where there is a free and extensive recipe resource  of easy to put together meals that will satisfy your bunch, and include some of your favourite Irish ingredients? You don’t believe us? Read on.

Our recipe collection is a handy tool for even the most efficient of cooks. Easy to use,  with beautifully photographed and easy to follow recipes at the click of a mouse.  You’ll find it on our home page under the Get Inspired section. Simply scroll down, click on Recipes, select  the meal you want for the time of day, (breakfast, lunch, dinner etc) and the number of servings.  All our recipes are devised by our member chefs and cooks. They take great care to source conscientiously and put together complimentary ingredients which pack in the flavour. Following a Good Food Ireland recipe is like having your own professional chef in the kitchen. Every single time you cook.

For the purposes of the person who cooks every day for her (or his!) family, we’ve have put together a quick selection of tasty dinners to serve 4-6 people. How about a simple Macaroni Cheese with Mossfield Organic cheese. Or a comforting Chicken Ham and Mushroom Pithivier from Kelly’s Resort Hotel. Burren Hot Smoked Salmon with Penne, all the way from the Burren Smokehouse in Co. Clare,  is a serious family filler even kids will love. These and lots more dinner ideas are easily made and quickly devoured by your favourite gang of foodies. Special weekend dining is also covered, with appetisinig little  starters, glamorous mains and sassy desserts.  All of them have our Good Food Ireland ethos at heart – the use of seasonal and local produce to give an Irish ingredient led experience every time, even in your own kitchen.

Taking it one step further, if you fancy brushing up on existing kitchen skills  – or starting from scratch if you’ve never been able to recognise one end of a saucepan from the other,   a course at one of our cookery schools might just be for you. Celebrity chefs and tv personalities form the body of the lecturers at Ballymaloe Cookery School and The Tannery Cookery School. Comprehensive, user friendly and approachable teaching is on offer at Dublin Cookery School, and  Donnybrook Fair Cookery School, one of Dublin’s most loved food shops.   Informal lessons in a home environment are on the cards at The East Coast Cookery School and Lady Eve Cookery.   Learn under the wing of a Michelin star chef, with Jp McMahon of Aniar Cookery School, Galway.  The newest addition to our trusty little squad of food educators is Dingle Cookery School, on the Wild Atlantic Way in Dingle town, Co. Kerry. The most magnificent of spots to do a spot of rocking the pots and pans!  On the Catch an Cook course, you even get to go fishing on a boat in Dingle Harbour,  before bringing your catch back to the school to cook it. How cool is that? An enriching  experience indeed, set to bring out the hunter in you! And one that conveys the message of the essence of fresh local food with actions rather than words.  We’ve enjoyed demonstrations and cookery sessions at all these superb destinations, and we can honestly say we came out of the experiences with our knowledge of good food extended, with a travelogue of beautiful learning destinations to revisit sometime in the future, and with some new friends into the bargain.
