Gallic Kitchen (The)

Main Street, Abbeyleix, Co Laois.

The Gallic Kitchen was started in Dublin around twenty years ago with a shop and a production kitchen. Sarah Webb produces the most delicious handmade pies, tarts, quiches, relishes, chutneys, jams and marmalade along with many other items all of which are delightfully free from additives and preservatives. A year ago, Sarah moved to Durrow, Co Laois, where she set up a commercial kitchen and, subsequently, opened a shop in Abbeyleix, which is open 7 days a week, selling wide a range of delicious produce alongside an ever-expanding range of delicatessen foods. You can indulge in a savoury or sweet nibble, or grab a fresh coffee and a snack to go. Sarah’s cosy Cafe and Deli serves the most beautiful homemade herb scones, pies and slices of quiche sat beside freshly baked homemade brown breads.

Ghan House and Cookery School

Carlingford, Co Louth.

Paul Carroll's eighteenth century Georgian house is nestled at the foot of Slieve Foy. This is a seriously character filled place, and an open fireplace create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, which permeates the house. The 12 ensuite with mountain-view bedrooms, are furnished with family antiques and filled with fresh flowers and old-fashioned attention to detail. Dining is a real treat in the classic surroundings not to mention the wonderful Cookery School all housed within these walled grounds.

Alan and Valerie Kingston of Glenilen Farm, have been producing some of the best natural dairy products in Ireland on their family dairy farm in West Cork since 1997. Each product is carefully handmade from the milk of their own herd and of neighbouring farms producing Glenilen’s wonderfully creamy milk, which is the basis for the superlative dairy products such as delicious, light as a feather cheesecakes, fromage frais, pro-biotic natural yoghurt, rich clotted and double cream and the best ever country butter.
