This morning, 03rd of November, the Green Dragon arrived in Cape Town at 07:12 completing the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 and finishing in third place. Good Food Ireland was on hand to serve up the best of Irish food to the 11 man crew who had eaten freeze-dried food for the last 23 days.
Maurice Keller of Arlington Lodge Country House Hotel in Waterford, a member of Good Food Ireland flew to Cape Town to meet the crew on arrival at port. Green Dragon Skipper Ian Walker and his crew hungrily ate Fillet of Irish beef, Burren Smokehouse Organic Smoked Salmon, Knockanore Cheese and Cooleeney Cheese with Ballymaloe Relish. All was served with Traditional Irish Soda Bread baked freshly by Maurice during the night.
Good Food Ireland is partnering Tourism Ireland all around the world for the Volvo Ocean Race and will be in Cape Town for the duration of the in port stopover. A number of Good Food Ireland Members will provide tastings of the best of Irish local produce and distribute Good Food Ireland Touring Maps to the many visitors that will visit the Irish pavilion in the Marina Village until the boats set sail on November 15th.
