Castle Murray House Hotel << Back
St John's Point, Dunkineely
Clifftop Hotel and Restaurant

Set against the Donegal mountains and
overlooking McSwyne’s bay and the
floodlit ruins of McSwynes Castle, the
stunning location of this friendly, familyrun,
country hotel offers an idyllic setting
to enjoy the exceptional unspoilt views
that Co. Donegal is blessed to offer. Run
by Marguerite and Martin Howley there
is a relaxed atmosphere from which to
explore the nearby highest sea cliffs in
Europe - Slieve League, Glenveigh National
Park and Fintra Beach. The location
of the hotel restaurant maximises the
fantastic panoramic views, which adds to
this romantic setting where you can also
enjoy fine wine and the culinary delights
of Remy Dupuis who has been chef there
since 1994. There is a strong emphasis on
local produce and seasonality determines
what the menu may offer.
The house special starter is ‘prawns &
monkfish in garlic butter’ and there is
their acclaimed ‘McSwyne’s bay blue
lobster ‘from the tank’ which can be
grilled or steamed and served with bolet
mushroom sauce’. Alternatively, there
was a ‘roasted pheasant breast, stuffed with Serrano ham, fresh herbs and truffle
sauce’ or ‘stuffed rabbit saddle with
black pudding and calvados sauce’,
which might catch the eye for those of
you preferring a non-seafood option. All
the rooms are ensuite with seaviews and
along with the bar and reception area
have recently been refurbished.
