One of the legacies of the Celtic tiger years is the very definite Italophilia which has developed in Ireland, particularly in relation to food. Frequent trips to Tuscany have left us craving a little taste of Italy on our own shores, and nowhere is this more in evidence than in the popularity of the Custom house Quay branch of Bar Italia. Set amid the busy financial hub of Dublin's IFSC, Stefano Crescenzi and Davide Izzo's Italian gem is brimming with personality and the food and service also delight, in equal measure.
The room is very classically Italian, simply appointed, with rustic wooden tables and chairs but shot through with a burst of contemporary style by oversized hanging red lampshades and lush curtains. The menu is a good mix of staples, tailored to the neighbourhood in which it dwells (think panino, bruschetta, crostini, pizza) and excellent regional specialities, inspired the team of Italian chefs and owners. The homemade pasta is fantastic, we can't resist the spaghetti allo scoglio, fresh spag with a simple sauce, fresh chilli, tomato and the sweetest, freshest Irish mussels and clams imaginable, zingy and delicious! Equally good is the in-house dessert special, custard tart with peach and limoncello and the seasonal fruit shortbread tart. Fantastic coffee and another small indulgence of a sliver of crostat alla Nutella (a stunning take on chocolate shortbread) ends a wonderful Italian experience.
The kitchen here is slick and well run with head chef making all the pasta, breads and desserts for the sister outlets, a system which ensures consistency and authenticity.
Janus and his team run an equally slick show out front and give a genuinely warm, Italian welcome. Provenance is clearly displayed and as with each outlet in the Bar Italia group, vegetables are local and seasonal, much of the raw meat from the organic Downey's butcher and dairy and fish all carefully sourced from within the Island. Bar Italia IFSC is a little pocket of soul in the financial district.

Unit 2The perfect wine list is not nearly as difficult as some would have you believe. It should be short and to the point.
