Paddy's O'Granola

Granola Food Producer

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And we love finding a breakfast that combines good health with good taste. Patrick O’Connell has brought those two essential elements of a good start to the day together, in one beautiful bag.

Patrick’s “Paddy’s O’Granola”, is a toasted breakfast cereal you won’t mind waking up for! This mix of toasted cereals and nuts, dried fruit, honey and organic sunflower oil is packed with goodness and energy. It shouts vitality as you pour it from the bag – and it’s uses don’t just begin and end in a breakfast bowl. It works in cooking and baking too. A spoonful or two added to a crumble topping gives gorgeous crunchiness to the finished dessert, or use it for delicious flapjacks for a tea time treat. But it comes into it’s own in the mornings – when it brings a taste of sunshine to the day. No wonder. Patrick’s influences for this cereal come from Hawaii and South Africa where he enjoyed it every day during a three month spell of travelling.

Patrick’s desire to be in the food business started as a student, when for a bit of extra cash he made this granola at the weekends, to sell at Stillorgan Farmer’s market each Wednesday morning. Six months of great sales and positive feedback followed, with customers returning for more each week. Then his college commitments kicked in, and the granola making was put on hold for quite some time, much to the disappointment of regular customers. But this story has a happy ending! After two years working in the property industry in Dublin, Patrick made the step to pick up his dream again to start a business in food – spurred on by previous completion of a Ballymaloe Cookery School course. His aim was to develop the granola idea, to create a tasty breakfast which kick starts the day in a positive and nutritious manner. And he has done just that.

Ingredients come from health food suppliers in Kerry and Kilkenny, with honey from Helen Gee of G’s Gourmet Jams in County Laois – Patrick’s home county. The business is now thriving, with an ever increasing list of cafés, hotels and shops crying out to stock Paddy O’Granola, a quality product in striking packaging. If you manage to get your hands on some, you’ll soon see why everyone loves it. Or should we say – you’ll soon taste why everyone loves it!

Granola is up there as one of my favorite foods and has been for many years. Having tried countless different brands and varieties I can honestly say that Paddys OGranola is the outright market leader. It stands alone as the tastiest granola that can be bought and is well worth visiting the markets for.
