Gazing out of your window at the stunning views over Castle Hume Lough and listening to the lap of lake water as swans paddle by, it is easy to think that this impressive building has been here for centuries. In reality, it didn’t exist until a few years ago, but that is what makes the Lough Erne Golf Resort such a fantastic find amidst the spell binding tranquillity of the Fermanagh Lakelands.
Lough Erne is the ultimate expression in old world heritage, with the open fires, established furnishings and seemingly endless series of rooms. The sense of ‘new build’ is very far away, and the new world five-star luxury is seamlessly integrated. This is a remarkably beautiful and largely forgotten area of Ireland. It is a land of calm and serenity and offers much to do and explore, Scenery alone is enough to plan a visit.
The hotel itself, nestled on its own secluded island between Lower Lough Erne and Castle Hume Lough, has stunning panoramic views from almost every vantage point. The resort offers 120 guest rooms, including 25 Loughside Lodges, six suites and 53 hotel bedrooms. The Thai Spa offers authentic Thai treatments delivered by Thai therapists, using Thai product range, Lau Erb. Take a stroll or jog along the Collop Walk which meanders through the Resort and down by the edges of the Lough.
That is assuming the two 18 hole Championship Golf Courses, including The Faldo Course, The Ultimate Golf Destination, doesn’t tempt you first. Resident Game Angling Instructor, Packie Trotter, gives Casting Lessons on The Resort Grounds or for the more experienced Angler, navigate the waters of Castle Hume Lough, while Fly Fishing for Pike or Rainbow Trout.
When you arrive back contentedly fatigued from whatever of the wonderful activities you have taken part in, you can choose to sit back and relax informally in The Blaney Bar and enjoy acclaimed Chef, Noel McMeel’s exquisite Grazing Menu and sample some of the 101 Irish Whiskies from the Exclusive Collection. Or if tradition tempts earlier in the day, Afternoon Tea is served in The Garden Hall. Chocolate Afternoon Tea is served at weekends supported by Chocolate Cocktails and on selected dates, Pink Afternoon Tea is served with a glass of Billecart-Salmon Rose.
The Loughside Clubhouse Bar & Grill, for Casual All- Day Dining and Prime Irish Meats from the Grill, is the latest addition to the dining experiences at Lough Erne Golf Resort. Choose from an eclectic mix of time-honoured Golfers Fayre with an Irish twist, such as Loughside Steak & Guinness Pie. The choice of grills features Dexter beef originating in the South Western region of Ireland, which is a distinctive rare breed of sweet- tasting beef. Fermanagh is now one of the largest producers of Dexter Beef.
You can also dine in The Catalina Restaurant, complete with vaulted wine cellar, which offers a relaxing fine dining experience. This light and spacious room with vaulted ceilings and arched windows, provides diners with an elegant yet relaxed ambiance as well as spectacular panoramic views of the Lough. The menu comprises a mix of classic and contemporary dishes with an emphasis upon fresh, seasonal and local produce, prepared by acclaimed Chef, Noel McMeel and his team. The wine list brings together a unique and extensive collection of classic wines from the traditional regions of France, Italy and Spain, combined with the best new labels from countries as diverse as Austria, Argentina and Australia. The aim is to include something to suit all tastes.
As you would expect from a Good Food Ireland member, Lough Erne Golf Resort is a true culinary delight. Guests are provided with a variety of innovative dining experiences, complemented and enhanced by the best possible selection of wines and beverages. Acclaimed executive chef, Noel McMeel believes that guests should have a choice of dining styles and locations to suit their mood, whether they seek a romantic dinner a deux with fine wine, a relaxed lunch after a round of golf, or an informal Afternoon Tea with friends. He has therefore created a range of innovative signature menus. Irish born Noel McMeel comes to Lough Erne Golf Resort with a simple philosophy: sourcing, preparing and serving fresh food in season. McMeel’s passion for food and his vibrant personality shine through in all he achieves, from finding the best local suppliers, to inspiring his team of carefully selected chefs.
Wines have been individually selected by Jane Boyce, Master of Wine, to complement McMeel’s menus. In addition, Boyce has created other selections for drinking with out food. Boyce has a quarter of a century of experience in the wine trade and is the only Master of Wine to reside in Northern Ireland.
The Lough Erne Team will continue to impress you again and again as you dine throughout Lough Erne during your stay. And believe us once you visit Lough Erne you’ll be counting the days until you return again!
