There is something quite special about the" local bistro" concept. The associations are romantic... a Sunday stroll across the (in this case, quite literal) village green to the quirky but inviting candlelit cafe. Itsa4, on Sandymount Green is such a local. Owned by the venerable Domini and Peaches Kemp, it has quickly become a favourite of residents and visitors alike.
The space is simple and light. A long and comfortable banquette runs practically the length of the restaurant and it was here we were seated by the extremely warm and welcoming waitress. A note here about the staff: they are an efficient and knowledgeable crew, well trained and completely au fait with the menu and its ethos... and what an ethos it is! All stocks are gluten free, no flour is used in sauces, potatoes and vegetables, where possible, are organic, beef is Irish, chicken, free-range.
There is real care here that produce is meticulously sourced and additive free and that meat is ethically reared. With this in mind, we chose a triple-decker club sandwich: roast chicken, bacon, brie, lettuce & tomato, a real test of a restaurant and this one was a triumph! Difficult to pass over the organic beef burger with melted Swiss, bacon, ketchup and fries but we did! Afterwards a warm sticky toffee pudding with crème fraiche & toffee sauce was just as deliciously gooey as it should be. The wine list is simple and well sourced with plenty of interest by the glass. Itsa4 is stylish without being faddish. Itsa hit!
