Silver Hill Foods, based in Emyvale, Co Monaghan has been producing award winning Duck produce for over 45 years and is Irelands only fully integrated family owned artisan Duck Company.

If you’ve ever tasted Silver Hill Foods wonderful and unique Peking Duck, you’ll know that they deserve every accolade they receive. All their hand-reared ducks are processed in their facilities in Emyvale. They are fed on a natural diet, without any additives, then air chilled without any added water. The result is meat that’s succulent, tender and full of flavour. Ronnie and Lyla Steele established the Silver Hill company in 1962 and their son Stuart now runs it. The company is dedicated to making sure that standards are of the highest quality in all aspects of production – from breeding, hatching, growing through to processing and cooking. Silver Hill also has the environment very close to heart and is constantly looking into green energy and to be more self-sustaining. Stuart believes the secret of their success is the fact that they produce their own unique breed of duck and they never sell any of their duck eggs so external reproduction does not occur. 45 years of good husbandry and breeding has resulted in lower fat content and increased depth of breast meat in the Silver Hill duck, which is why it has received so many accolades and awards and become the duck of choice in so many homes and restaurants across the UK and Ireland and being championed by many food hero’s including Heston Blumenthal who featured Silver hill on his TV series In Search of Perfection.

And now you can visit the new Silver Hill Foods Farm Shop, which is situated in the village of Emyvale, Co Monaghan, a welcome addition to the local community and to its parent company Silver Hill Foods.

Chef and head of research and development, Gary McDowell manages the roadside shop which offers a mouth-watering range of duck – from smoked spiced duck breast fillets and honey roast duck to confit of duck leg and duck sausages, among other delicious choices – which Silver Hill is renowned for. However, beautifully prepared duck in an array of gourmet tastes isn’t the only product on offer. Silver Hill Foods is a fully integrated duck producer that also offers duck down duvets and pillows now available through the retail shop. Also a well-established member of the local community, Silver Hill Foods encourage and promote local producers and artisans.

The shop proudly displays homemade condiments from Castle Leslie as well as handmade pottery from Busy Bee Ceramics along with other locally produced crafts. The Silver Hill Farm Shop is also involved in a newly established community allotment located directly across the street on the edge of town. Divided into six sections, the allotment will be nurtured and harvested under the tutelage of the farm shop by six different schools in the local area. Manager Gary says; "it is an exciting development which will teach children the importance of planting and growing, as well as what can be done with fruits and vegetables in season". The Silver Hill Foods Farm Shop hopes to sell some of the local produce starting in September.
