Cottage Restaurant

The village of Moycullen, just outside Galway on the Clifden road, is home to White Gables restaurant. Ann and Kevin Dunne opened here in 1991 and since then, have very firmly established themselves on the destination restaurant map. Outside, the stone building has red window frames, giving an eye-catching cottagey look. Once inside, you’ll get a lovely warm feeling, partly due to the open fire and panelled walls, but also from the genuine welcome. You can have a pre-prandial drink in the bar before going in through the plush red velvet curtains to the restaurant. Here, stonewalls, dimmed lighting, candles and fresh flowers add to the cosy atmosphere.

As you’d expect, ingredients are locally sourced where possible and carefully chosen. Dinner is available every evening from 7pm with A la Carte and Table D’hote menus. Sunday Lunch begins at 12.30pm and has long become a firm favourite. It’s advisable to book your table, either for lunch or evening meals.

Seafood features strongly on all menus. Smoked Eel with Horseradish Cream, Castletownbere Crab Claws Pan-fried with Garlic Butter, Classic Seafood Cocktail, Avocado and Shrimp Creole, Smoked Mackerel and Smoked Salmon Salad for starters. Grilled Sole on the Bone, Pan-fried Monkfish, Scallops Mornay, Fresh Lobster from the Seawater Tank or maybe Grilled Sea Bass may be on the mains. A signature dish is the now famous Traditional Roast Half Duckling with Orange Sauce – this was my choice on the night we dined and I can vouch for its wonderful texture and flavour.

Connemara Lamb and Beef come from Mc Geough’s of Oughterard and other choices might include Escalope of Pork Cordon Bleu or Supreme of Chicken Kiev. The wine list is divided into sections such as Swanky wines, Posh wines, Classics and New World and there’s a good selection of half bottles. And of course there are some delicious non-alcoholic juices and cordials for the driver. Tempting desserts round off a great meal – try the Bread and Butter Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce or perhaps Poached Pear with Chocolate Sauce and Ice cream or an unusual Creamy Coconut Cheesecake. Relax with a liqueur such as the wonderful new cream liqueur, Coole Swan.

In 2009 Enjoy...from White Gables was born, a quirky food shop offering  customers the choice of enjoying White Gables delicious food at home. Enjoy...prepares, cooks and bakes fresh produce daily so you can experience real home cooked fresh food in your own home.  The freshly prepared home-made breads and pastries fly out the door! 

Whether you need breakfast, lunch or dinner – it’s all available from Enjoy...from White Gables. Enjoy...is proud to supply and promote a variety of produce from local artisan producers. The shop is filled with jams from Ginger Girl, breakfast muesli from Paddy’s O Granola, smoked salmon from the Connemara Smoke House.

Located at the heart of Moycullen, Co. Galway Enjoy... opens 6 days a week . While Moycullen has expanded over the years it is still a small village on the outskirts of the City of Galway. Enjoy..the shop is a hive of activity where you find owner Ann buzzing about the shop delighted of any opportunity at all to chat!  There are other treasures available in the shop too – fantastic selection of wine, beautiful hand painted cups, wonderful displays of aprons, tea cosy’s – all making great gifts.  Whether you need an apron for Granny, wine for Dad or simply a box of sweets for the teacher Enjoy has something for everyone!

Menus change daily using as much seasonal produce as is available.  Choices range from fish pie, chicken casserole, goats cheese tartlets, house salads, honey baked hams and much more.  Desserts are mouth watering! Plump bread and butter pudding, home baked apple pie, Victoria sponge, fruit scones are some of the sumptuous desserts on offer. Fresh bread available all day too!
