More a Café than a Bar, Fallon’s is now firmly established on the Kildare food trail. Owner Brian Fallon (of Fallon & Byrne) realised there was a considerable niche in the market in the Kilcullen area for good, well-cooked food. Originally the owner of the Red House outside Naas, many of these customers remain loyal and continue to patronise Fallon’s.
Customers come not just from the local area but also from all around the county. And why would they not, when they can eat Rose Brannock’s delicious food such as the Fish Pie I sampled for lunch with juicy prawns, succulent salmon and lightly smoked haddock in a creamy sauce with a chive mash on top. Or the real Fish ‘n’ Chips with a cod fillet in beer batter, also on the lunch menu or a local speciality such as Nolan’s of Kilcullen Black Pudding Parcel. There’s an all day menu that has a Seafood Chowder and Onion Soup Gratinée, both very popular. The Fallon’s Burger is a signature dish – thick burger served with Pommes Frites, cheese and bacon and aioli and Chicken Madras is the authentic dish cooked by an Indian chef.
The dinner menu might offer a Grilled Fillet of Sea Bass with Parmesan Crust, Sundried Tomato and Basil Pesto or Baked Fillets of Sea Trout with Potato Pancake and Garlic Butter. While there’s an emphasis on fish, you might also find Braised Lamb Shank with Colcannon in a Honey & Rosemary Jus, Pan-fried Fillet Steak with Chunky Fries, Asparagus & Béarnaise Sauce or Roast Duck Breast with Noodles, Julienne of Vegetables and Chilli & Lime Dressing. Follow this with a dessert of Homemade Apple and Rhubarb Crumble in Season or Chocolate Mousse Gateau.
At lunchtime, food is served in the main bar, where there are comfortable sofas and some alcoves for privacy. Interesting photos adorn the walls – last year, Brian Fallon bought an old French newspaper from the Thirties at a flea market in France for just a couple of euro. Many of the pages have been framed and show some wonderful black-and-white photos and original stories. There’s a comfortable conservatory at the back and an outdoor terrace, both used at lunchtime. The function room, also used for dining, is off the conservatory and has beautiful ‘bridal’ chair coverings with wonderful golden bows. This beautiful stone building is a converted barn, with the original hatch high on the wall. Fallon’s children helped design the images on the children’s menu; this offers what would be considered the usual food but all completely homemade, including Homemade Chicken Fingers, Little Chef’s Sirloin Steak Frites and Eggs Benedict, with a choice of drinks from the fresh organic Ballycross Apple Juice range. The main dining room, off the bar, is L-shaped, with dark furniture and brick walls. It’s open in the evening and has become very much a destination restaurant. The wine list is mainly European with a nod at the New World, particularly for the half bottles.
Fallon's have a strong relationship with their suppliers and as members of Good Food Ireland their menu reflects their commitment to Irish Food Producers and they are proud to tell you where their produce comes from, in fact Fallons have has just won the

best dining experience we have had in ages.food great, staff great ,reasonably priced. They did everything to make us welcome. Well done. We can be quite hard to please normally, but we couldnt find fault.
I visited Fallon’s last week with my husband after hearing great reviews about the place. On arriving I felt the décor and atmosphere to be very calming and relaxing. We were warmly welcomed as we took our seats. The food was delicious with good size portions. The staff members were very helpful attentive. For the quality of service, food ambience that we received it did not reflect in our bill. I would highly recommend it will most definitely be returning.
