If ever there was a typical Irish pub, this is it! In the Curtin family for three generations, this characterful, 150 year old hostellery is now in the hands of Peter and Birgitta Curtin of Burren Smokehouse fame. Step inside the cosy lounge and take a step back in time. The low ceilings and traditional polished wooden bar are still intact, and walls are adorned with pictures of musicians, that have played here on many a lively night. The Roadside Taven has a reputation for discovering and highlighting local musical talent.
Peter Curtin has a personality larger than life, and his influence is reflected in the atmosphere here, as well as the food on the menu, much of which is made by him at the smokehouse. Tap your feet to the sound of the fiddle while tucking into the house specialty, Burren Smokehouse Baked Hot Smoked Salmon on Colcannon, which we simply had to have. It’s good. It’s very good indeed. For something lighter, enjoy a Burren Smoked Fish Platter, or Burren Smokehouse delicious Smoked Salmon with Organic Lettuce.
If you fancy meat, you can’t do better than the Roadside’s satisfying beef stew made from local butcher Neil Hawes North Clare beef, sandwiches and home made soup also feature. To finish, enjoy Apple Pie and Cream, a wedge of Bailey’s Cheesecake or heavenly Chocolate Fudge Cake. Wide selection of beers wines and spirits available. Tour groups welcomed, and combined visits to the Smokehouse and pub arranged.#
The Roadside Tavern have now opened The Burren Microbrewery and their beers include burren black (stout) burren red(ale) and burren gold(lager). All beers brewed at ths pub are lovely tasting.
