When Eileen Dunne And her husband, Stefano Crescenzi opened their unassuming wine shop on Dublin’s Frederick Street, in 1999, they weren’t to know how quickly it was to become a well-loved institution.
Initially, it was primarily a wine shop, stocking over 150 wines from every region of Stefano’s native Italy and serving some cold Antipasti and Cheeses. Soon, however, it was clear that it was morphing into a favourite destination for lunch and gradually they realised expansion, both in shape and form, was necessary. Having secured the adjacent premises, they have now created a bigger, but still intimate dining space. Simple Italian wooden tables and chairs furnish a large space with wine, pasta, oils and vinegars piled to the roof on shelves all around.
The menu, though Italian, uses the best in Irish beef and local organic vegetables. We choose a simple Crostini Con Pâté di Tonno i Carciofini to start... toasted bread with a delicious pâté of tuna, artichoke, capers and anchovies, all sitting on some peppery rocket. We followed with a steaming bowl of Homemade Linguini, perfectly cooked and served with succulent Scampi, Cherry Tomatoes and just the right amount of fiery Chilli. Afterwards, an indulgent classic Panna Cotta, wobbly and creamy and perfectly complemented with a fantastic double espresso.
The room is buzzing with politicians and students, lunching ladies and the literati. What better place to enjoy simple food, late into the evening with a bottle or two of Amarone. A real Dublin gem!

It was my wifes Birthday and I treated her with Italian meal. The first impressive thing was warmth of the staff. The food reminded me of my trip to Italy FIVE years ago, the same authenticity, same taste, same style with same music. My 3 year old son enjoyed the food even he was eating by his own and demanding for more saw him 1st time asking for more food. It made our day perfect. I will revisit and revisit this restaurant. I will recommend this restaurant one should visit this little Italy atmosphere. Well Done Thanks a lot for making our day Great Suresh Uppal
